Proceeds from the tour go directly to historic preservation and education. Pemberton Historical Park’s goal is to rebuild many of the plantation’s outbuildings and become a working 18th century plantation. Among other projects, the Whitehaven Heritage Association, Inc., has used proceeds to restore and maintain the one-room schoolhouse built in 1886 and replace the steeple of the United Methodist Church, which was destroyed by Hurricane Hazel in 1954. It is currently raising funds to replace the schoolhouse roof.
